The Follies is located on the edge of the popular village of Brightwalton, which lies on the Berkshire Downs midway between Newbury, Hungerford and Wantage. There is a nursery and primary school in the village which also falls within the catchment area for the Downs School. Brightwalton has a farm shop. Other shops and services can be found nearby in Chieveley, Great Shefford, Donnington and Wantage. There is good access to Newbury,
Reading, Oxford and Swindon. Communications are excellent to London and the rest of the country by road via the A34 and M4, and by rail via either Didcot or Newbury Stations (Paddington line).
The Follies was originally two period cottages. It has been extensively refurbished and extended to create a beautifully presented and comfortable family house. The accommodation is well proportioned and flexible in its layout. Both the
drawing room and the dining room are of a generous size and look out onto the gardens, paddock and the views beyond. The kitchen is in the Shaker style and has a large breakfast area
with access to the utility room on one side and the larder and downstairs cloakroom on the other. Upstairs, the landing gives access to the bedrooms and a family bathroom. The master bedroom has built-in wardrobes, a generous bathroom, and enjoys views over the garden and the countryside. The guest bedroom has a dressing room which
could, with some re-design, allow another en suite shower room to be created.
Garden and Grounds
The gardens surrounding The Follies are laid mainly to lawn with some mature and beautifully stocked borders and planted with many traditional English plants and climbers. A terrace, with pergola, faces west which is ideal for entertaining and enjoying the evening sun. The stables and paddock lie to
the east of the property with separate access onto Pudding Lane.
