Whitchurch on Thames is a picturesque village situated on the South Oxfordshire bank of the River Thames, opposite Pangbourne in Berkshire, lying at the foot of the Chilterns Escarpment as it meets the Thames Valley, the area designated as being of ‘Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
Little changed over the years and without the intrusive development that has marked many villages, Whitchurch retains its tranquil setting by the Thames with numerous riverside and country walks available locally. The stretch of the river between Whitchurch and Streatley is particularly scenic and formed the basis of local author Kenneth Graham's immortal book ‘The Wind in the Willows'. The village boasts an interesting history with a wealth of period and character properties reflecting a rich architectural heritage, many Listed as being of ‘special architectural and historical merit' especially along the High Street itself which is now a ‘Conservation Area'.
There are two ‘Olde Worlde' Inns, a well revered primary school, an Art Gallery with works by local artists and a village Cricket Ground supported by an enthusiastic village team.
The larger village of Pangbourne on Thames, within walking distance and connected by a privately owned Toll Bridge over the River from Whitchurch, offers a comprehensive range of shops and amenities including a supermarket, WH Smith, banks, impressive new health centre, library, dentist and, importantly, a main line railway station providing fast commuter services to Reading and London (Paddington) in just over the half hour.
There are also excellent road communications providing easy access to Reading, Newbury, Oxford, Henley and the M4 Motorway at Theale. In addition to state schools there is a wide selection of private schools in the immediate local area giving ample choice.
Originating in the late 1950's, and substantially enlarged in later years, Cedar Cottage is a particularly spacious contemporary family home of generous proportions and exceptionally light and bright throughout with large picture windows enjoying views over the beautiful gardens surrounding the house. Affording flexibly arranged accommodation combining a traditional and yet more open-plan layout to great effect.
To the ground floor the Entrance Hall leads to the large central Sitting Room with an open fire and solid Maple flooring, continuing through the ground floor. A few steps lead down to an additional Family Room. Also on the ground floor are the Kitchen/Breakfast Room, Dining Room, Study and Shower Room. The staircase leads up to a spacious Landing/Library area, and on to Master Bedroom with En-Suite, second Bedroom En-Suite, 2 further generous Double Bedrooms and a family Bathroom.
In all the accommodation is approximately 2675 sq ft. Early viewing is advised in order to appreciate the excellent space and potential afforded, within a wonderful central village position.
From the High Street a private shared driveway opens through a wide walled entrance leading up to the further private gated entrance to Cedar Cottage. A 5 bar gate opens onto a sweeping gravelled driveway and forecourt providing ample parking space including a double garage. The house sits well back in its delightful plot, surrounded by carefully tended garden on all sides, with the principle garden lying to the rear. Mainly laid to lawn with an array of mature trees, shrubs, specimen plants, perennial and herbaceous borders, it is a wonderful family garden, with a great degree of privacy and seclusion, despite the central village location. There is a workshop, timber storage shed, a brick built wood store, fruit cage, pond, fern garden to one corner and a wide paved Southerly facing terrace leading off the principle reception rooms ideally suited for ‘al-fresco' dining/entertaining.
In all the plot amounts to approximately 0.64 acres.

At the railway bridge junction bear right and turn left into Reading Road leaving the village up Whitehill. In 2 miles turn right at the crossroads in Crays Pond for Whitchurch and Pangbourne. On coming down the hill into Whitchurch itself, continue along the High St where the driveway entrance will be found between two brick pillars on the left hand side, just after passing Manor Road on the opposite side.
