3 Hill Corner Cottages is a delightful Grade II listed brick and flint cottage built in approximately 1670. The current owners extended the property with listed building consent in 2006 and have created an extra bedroom upstairs and an additional reception room on the ground floor. The house retains many original features including wooden floors, exposed beams and pretty lead light windows. On the ground floor there are two excellent reception rooms; the sitting room has a wood burning stove and the dining room has wonderful views out over the garden. which can be accessed through a set of French doors. The kitchen is across the rear hallway from the dining room and has smart hand-made cabinetry, a butler's sink and a range oven. The original external brick and flint wall sits behind the oven makes a lovely feature wall.
Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and a large family bathroom. In the corner of the main bedroom there is a narrow staircase leading up to the loft space which is currently used as a home office/hobby room but there is much flexibility as to its use.
3 Hill Corner Cottages sits in a rural location on the edge of the highly regarded
village of Upper Basildon which boasts its own church, primary school and sizeable village hall. A huge variety of community clubs and activities are hosted here, and the popular Red Lion public house is also closeby. The Thameside village of Pangbourne is just 3.5 miles away and provides an excellent range of local shops and services, including an outstanding specialist cheese shop, an award winning butcher, and a main line rail link to London Paddington within the hour. Reading is only 10 miles away and offers a more comprehensive range of amenities, including rail links to London and the added draw of Crossrail in 2019. The M4 (J12) is approximately 7 miles away and provides excellent vehicular access to London, its airports and the motorway network. In addition there is a bus service from Upper Basildon which runs in and out of Reading a couple of times a day.
The area is well served by a good range of both state and private schooling, and the surrounding countryside is renowned for its walks and rides.
The property is accessed off a quiet country lane and is reached down a shared track. Entrance is through a 5 bar wooden gate on to a gravel driveway with ample parking for several cars. The gardens lie to the side of the house and are mainly laid to lawn with mature hedges on the boundaries offering maximum privacy. There are mature flower beds and rose bushes throughout the garden and a trellis and espalier of fruit trees divides off a section of the garden, behind which is the studio. This is currently used as a work shop and has full power and light, but could easily be used as a home office or gym.
