Situated between Reading and Oxford on the border with Oxfordshire and Berkshire lies the picturesque village of Goring on Thames, nestling on the bank of the river opposite the village of Streatley in the ‘Goring Gap', an historic crossing point of the Thames where the ancient Ridgeway Path comes down from the Berkshire Downlands to meet the river and the Chiltern Hills and then continuing eventually on to the Icknield Way into East Anglia. The surrounding countryside is designated an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and the centres of both Goring and Streatley are now ‘Conservation Areas', thus preserving the many notable period properties, some of which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries.
Goring offers a good range of amenities, including shops, library, modern health centre, dentist, several traditional inns and restaurants, Boutique hotel, churches of several denominations and an excellent primary school with a wide range of private and state schools in the immediate local area. Importantly in 1840 Isambard Kingdom Brunel brought the Great Western Railway through the Thames Valley with this historic line having 2 architecturally stunning Viaducts spanning the River either side of the Village .The village now boasts a mainline railway station which provides excellent commuter services up to London (Paddington) in well under the hour. There are also good road communications to the surrounding towns and both the M4 and M40 motorway networks.
Streatley on Thames, on the Berkshire side of the river, is another picturesque village surrounded by hills and woodlands now mainly owned by the National Trust. Fronting onto the river by the bridge crossing over into Goring is the luxury 4 star riverside hotel the Swan renowned for its fine cuisine and leisure and fitness facilities. Steatley also has a long established and renowned Golf Course.
Elvendon Road is approached off the Wallingford Road and leads out of the village in an Easterly direction, winding up through the scenic Elvendon Valley passing the Grade I Listed Elvendon Priory with private, Estate owned farmland and woodland on each side. The Primary School and a local Shop are in close proximity the former having easy off road access via Bourdillon Field and the main High Street and Station are also within easy reach.
The tree lined road is known for its abundance of spring flowers especially bluebells and for the chestnut trees which extend along part of the road as it climbs up to Goring Heath and Woodcote. Many footpaths and bridle ways give access over this delightful area of unspoilt countryside.
A traditionally designed and built detached house having been enlarged and refurbished to provide a family home of generous proportions, with quality fixtures and fittings evident throughout. The house is beautifully presented with a contemporary yet characterful feeling.
To the ground floor the front door opens into a central Reception Hall, and on to a Cloakroom, Family Room with bay window & fireplace, large Sitting Room with wood burning stove & patio doors to the garden and contemporary fitted Kitchen with open plan Dining Room. Beyond this is a particularly spacious Utility Room with rear door, a Double Guest Bedroom and second Cloakroom. Upstairs is an impressive Master Bedroom with Juliette balcony & ample fitted wardrobes, two further Bedrooms, a luxurious family Bathroom, and an additional Shower Room. Early viewing is advised to appreciate the excellent family accommodation afforded, amounting to approximately 2072 sq ft in all.
The house stands back from the road approached over a private driveway affording off road parking for numerous cars. To the side of the house a timber gate affords a wide access around to the rear, where a paved patio leading directly off the house, ideal for outdoor dining and entertaining, enjoying a sunny Southerly aspect. The excellent family garden is laid to lawn and over 135' long, with attractive beds & borders providing colour and interest throughout the year, two timber sheds for storage, a greenhouse and a fruit & vegetable garden. To the rear of the garden is a fantastic detached home office/studio, only recently installed.
