Whitchurch Hill is a quiet, hilltop village lying some 450' above sea level on the edge of the Chilterns Escarpment bordering the Thames Valley approximately 2 miles from Pangbourne on Thames with the surrounding countryside designated an “A.O.N.B. “
Traditional timbered and thatched cottages overlook the village green as does the parish church of St John and there are many other period properties reflecting the differing architectural styles through the ages, which essentially form the character and provenance of this unspoilt rural community historically based on agriculture and farming.
Hill Bottom forms the Eastern side of the village and adjoins beautiful countryside.
At the bottom of the hill is the separate village of Whitchurch on Thames lying opposite the village of Pangbourne, and which boasts a high Ofsted rated Primary School and 2 popular Inns.
Pangbourne on the Berkshire side of the River and connected by an historic Toll Bridge, offers excellent shopping facilities including a supermarket as well as a wide range of amenities and notably a mainline railway station with fast commuter services to Reading and up to London (Paddington well under the hour). Road communications are especially good particularly for the major centres of Reading, Henley on Thames, Oxford, and Newbury and for both the M.40 and M4 motorway networks.
Built in 2009 for the current owner, The Glen is an impressive bespoke detached residence of contemporary design and displays a high quality finish throughout. The main house affords principle accommodation of approximately 3113 sq ft with additional outbuildings bringing the total to approximately 5367sq ft. Stylish and superbly presented, the house incorporates features such as limestone floors, oak & glazed staircase, vaulted ceilings, a galleried landing, and spacious open plan living areas arranged around the wonderful vistas over the beautiful grounds and surrounding countryside.
Leading off a quiet no through lane and overlooking grazing meadows to the front, the house is approached via a gated entrance into the gravelled forecourt providing generous parking space and leading to the detached garaging with two enclosed bays and two further car port bays. Above the garage is a 41' studio room with independent external access. The hedged frontage has an additional pedestrian gate with path to the oak framed front porch flanked by neat front lawns.
To the rear the magnificent and beautifully kept lawned gardens gently undulate away from the house, with a mature backcloth of trees and country shrubs. Leading off the living spaces are a paved patio terrace and further raised decked terrace providing excellent al-fresco entertaining spaces with a simply delightful outlook. In the garden is a large timber Summer House with light, power, and a veranda positioned to enjoy the evening sunshine. To the far side is an area of meadow, with a large detached undeveloped Barn of 985sq ft.
