The much prized village of Goring on Thames occupies a stunning location in the beautiful Thames Valley set between the Chiltern Hills and the Berkshire Downlands approx. midway between Reading and Oxford, the area know geographically as the ‘Goring Gap' and designated an ‘A.O.N.B.' In 2009 Goring was awarded the prestigious ‘Oxfordshire village of the Year' and also the coveted ‘South England' title.
The village boasts an excellent range of shops and facilities together with Olde Worlde pubs, a highly regarded Bistro/Café, choice of restaurants, a Boutique hotel, Doctors and Dental surgeries and importantly a mainline station offering fast services up to London (Paddington) in under the hour. There is also easy access for the major local towns, including Oxford, Reading and Newbury, the M4 and M40 motorways, and for Heathrow.
Locally there is a first class choice of both state and private schools with bus collections.
The central part of Goring is a ‘Conservation Area' and has a wealth of interesting period properties many Listed being of significant architectural and historical interest.
Streatley on Thames, on the Berkshire side of the river, is another picturesque village surrounded by hills and woodlands now mainly owned by the National Trust. Fronting onto the river by the bridge crossing over to Goring is the luxury riverside hotel the Swan with new Coppa Club restaurant and leisure and fitness facilities.
Believed to date from the 1600's and remodelled in 1806 as marked by the stone plaque on the front elevation, the Cottage is synonymous with this history of the Village occupying a prominent position in the High Street.
The attractive building has whitened brick elevations with exposed timbering reflecting its original construction, under a steeply pitched clay tile half hipped roof with tiled dormer windows to the first floor.
Internally the cottage affords surprisingly spacious three bedroom accommodation of approximately 1320 sq ft. The front door opens into a small hallway, and on into the large sitting room with wood burning stove in the inglenook fireplace. Beyond this is the kitchen/breakfast room with doors to the garden, dining room and ground floor bathroom. Upstairs from a central landing are two double bedrooms, a third single bedroom and family bathroom. Full of character and occupying a convenient central village location, early viewing is advised.
The Cottage fronts onto the High St, and is approached over a private driveway with a gated entrance at the side of the adjoining shop, Virgo Beauty. This leads to a gravelled courtyard area with a designated area for parking two cars at the rear of the Cottage. A pedestrian gate gives access into a sizeable Patio Garden fully enclosed to ensure privacy with a further patio area in the corner of the building. The Patio is ideal for ‘al-fresco' living and is accessed from the Cottage through the double French doors in the Kitchen/Breakfast Room.
